“As doctors, we find that our patients suffer because of increasing deductibles, co-payments, and restrictions on patient care. More and more, physicians are turning to national health insurance as a solution to this problem” -Dr. Ronald Ackermann of the Indiana University School of Medicine, who worked on the recent study surveying 2,000 American doctors

2. Upcoming Green Events
A. GPCA Spring 2008 Plenary (04/05-04/06)
This weekend, Campus Greens has the honor of co-hosting the Green Party of California's Spring Plenary meeting. Registration starts at 8am and the Plenary will start at 10am in 145 Dwinelle. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Students register for free while observers may register for $40 per day. This is a great opportunity to see the inner-workings of the state party.
B. Cal 2008 Presidential Debate Forum (04/09)
In collaboration with Boalt Director, Eric Stern, Students for Barack Obama, Cal Democrats, and Campus Greens, LPLS presents the UC Berkeley student body with a night of discussion, information and activism.
The event will consist of a panel of representatives from the McCain, Clinton, Obama, McKinney, and Nader campaigns who will debate issues and answer questions chosen by Berkeley students and moderated by Berkeley Political Science Professor Alan Ross.
All debate questions will be chosen out of a hat at the time of the debate. Aside from the actual debate, there will be an audience question and answer section as well. This event will give the entire Berkeley student body an opportunity to have their voices heard and questions answered. The event will start at 7pm in 155 Dwinelle. For more info, visit the Facebook event page at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=31560440186&ref=share
C. Cal Day Tabling (04/12)
Hundreds of admitted high school seniors and their families will be passing through Sproul Plaza on April 12 and we are tabling from 9am-4pm. If you can sign up for the 9am-1pm or 12pm-4pm shift, please reply ASAP. You do not need to have had any experience tabling.
D. Progressive Activists Coming Together (04/13)
Campus progressives are isolated and fragmented. It's hard to figure out what issues students even care about. How do you even get involved in campus activism? I thought that Berkeley was all about students actually DOING things!
Activism does not run on frustration. It is not about reacting. Activism is about dedicated people earnestly educating themselves and inspiring others. It's about EDUCATION and COMMUNITY.
P.A.C.T. is a conference about actually getting down to what we can do. Come out and find out about what a whole smattering of campus groups are working on right now and how you can get involved.
P.A.C.T. includes, but not limited to:
Campaign to End the Death Penalty
By Any Means Necessary
Berkeley American Civil Liberties Union
Cal Greens
Sustainability Team
Educate!
Disabled Students' Union
If you've ever wondered about how progressive clubs can work together, If you'd like to find out more about what any of these clubs do, If you'd like to get educated and excited about how you can use your education to change the world, this conference is for you.
This conference will be at noon in 2050 VLSB. For more info, visit our Facebook event page at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=12711336750
3. Other Progressive Events
A. The Clash of '68 (04/02-04/28)
Soon to be forty years old, May ’68 is demonstrating creaky joints, age-related depression, and memory loss. Definitely memory loss. So The Clash of ’68 is dedicated to the memory of that most remarkable month and its surrounding history. The emphasis of this program is an expansive sense of global unrest focused on Paris, May ’68, as a watershed upheaval that surged forward with great optimism, only to be crushed by unyielding power. For more info, visit the event page at: http://bampfa.berkeley.edu/filmseries/clash_of_68
B. Direct Engagement: New Digital Films from Palestine and Lebanon (04/06)
This series explores the vitality and diversity of documentary and experimental filmmaking in Lebanon and Palestine today. The first two programs take place at the PFA Theater, with additional events presented on the UC Berkeley campus and in San Francisco. For more info, visit the event page at: http://bampfa.berkeley.edu/filmseries/direct_engagement
C. ASUC Elections (04/09-04/11)
Your student government (through IRV) for next year will be elected next week! Use your democratic right and make it happen! We are not officially endorsing a particular slate as a student group, but our members who are more progressively inclined may want to read up on the candidates at http://www.calserve.org
4. Green Internship/Job Opportunities
A. Greenpeace Organizing Term (due April 4)
As you know, global warming is the most significant environmental problem facing us today. We at Greenpeace are helping scale up the environmental movement by giving students the skills they will need to tackle global warming, deforestation, toxic waste disposal and other important environmental issues. We need your help building the movement and training the next generation of environmental activists!
The *Greenpeace Organizing Term* is an action-packed semester that will give students the leadership skills to come back to their campuses and be catalysts for change. While in the program, students will be trained in grassroots organizing, media, direct action, and campaign strategy. They will also learn to drive Greenpeace boats, run a successful campaign, and how to make change back on their campus! Best of all, they’ll put those new skills into practice by working on actual Greenpeace campaigns – in the U.S. and abroad!
We are currently accepting applications for the Fall semester. The application deadline is *April 4, 2008*.
Please share this opportunity with your campus group, and forward this message to any students who might be interested in a semester of action, travel and training with Greenpeace.
Furthermore, should you wish to receive information on other opportunities from Greenpeace, please provide us with your email address and we’ll send messages directly to you!
*For more information or to apply, please visit www.greenpeace.org/got.*
Thank you in advance for your help and support!
